Online Obituaries for the Troy, Royal Oak, Clawson & Shelby Township MI Area Benny Ray Wright, 68, of Shelby Township, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Benny was born in Detroit on March 5, 1947, to Leslie and JoAnne Wright. He graduated from Madison High School in Madison Heights, and then served our country as a member of the Air Force Reserves. Benny married young, and together with his first wife they had one child, Timothy. Benny took a job at GM as a clerk, and advanced through the years to the machine repair department. Benny's first marriage didn't work out, and the young couple parted ways. It was at this time that Benny moved in with a friend in Rochester Hills, who happened to have a neighbor, Linda. After a year long courtship, the two were married, and Benny became the loving dad of Linda's two girls, Shannon and Renee. He was a huge family guy who loved his girls and his son and all of his grandchildren. But family wasn't all that he loved. Benny was an avid golfer, often hitting the links over three times a week. He loved being outside in the open air and just walking. In fact, he completed 13 half-marathon walks and one full marathon walk. Benny also loved sports. He was surely a fan of all the local teams, but the Tigers were probably his favorite. He also liked our college teams here in Michigan, and would always root for both UofM and MSU, but (sadly) would ultimately have to ally himself with the lesser team (the one in green and white) when the two battled each other. Benny loved a different kind of sport as well, and could often be spotted playing the ponies down at the Hazel Park Racetrack. He was a big hearted, fun loving family guy, who will be forever missed by all who knew him. Benny is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda; his children, Shannon LaRocco, Tim Wright, and Renee (Jim) Morgan-Sypneiwski; his grandchildren, Dustin, Joshuah, Landin, and Alexis;his walking buddy, Ginger; his parents, Leslie and JoAnne Wright and his sister Karen (Richard) Leitch and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Visitation for Benny will be on Tuesday, April 7, from 3pm to 9pm, at the Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, Michigan 48317.
